What is an Interconnection Agreement (IA)? Why does Base need my previous IA ? How can I locate it?

Updated over a week ago

An Interconnection Agreement (IA) is a contract between a utility company and a customer that defines how a distributed energy resource (DER)—such as a solar panel system or home battery—connects to the grid. It ensures the system meets safety, technical, and regulatory standards before operating alongside the utility grid.

Base requires your existing solar IA to properly file your paperwork and generate a new IA for your Base battery.

To find your IA, search your email inbox for a message from your utility (Oncor or CenterPoint) from your solar installation.

If you can’t locate it, you can request a copy from your utility via email at [email protected] for Oncor customers or [email protected] for CenterPoint customers. Once received, please forward the full PDF to Base.

Please send the agreement itself, not the application for the agreement or the “Permission to Operate” (PTO) letter—these are different documents.
