Does the battery back up my whole home? How much power can it handle?

Edited

Yes. Your battery backs up everything on your main electrical panel. There is a limit on how much power your home can use at one time during an outage, and that limit depends on which battery system you have.

If you have Base Core
Your home must be using less than 20kW for the battery to turn on.

If usage is too high when an outage starts, turn off high-power appliances, then the battery will restart up to three times.

If you have a different Base battery
One 25 kWh battery: Your home must be using 11kW or less for the battery to turn on. Keep usage at or under 11kW while you're on battery power.

Two 25 kWh batteries: Your home must be using 11kW or less for the batteries to turn on. Once they're on, wait 5 minutes. After that, your home can use up to 22 kW.
We don't recommend running close to 22kW, since it drains your batteries much faster.

If your home has a larger A/C unit, you may have a soft start installed. This helps your A/C start up on battery power.

If your battery doesn't turn on
High-power appliances are usually the cause. Turn off or unplug:
• Electric heaters or heat strips
• Electric dryers and ovens
• EV chargers
• Pool pumps

Then wait for the battery to restart. Once it's running, add appliances back one at a time.
