I got an alert saying my battery isn't active. What do I do?

Edited

If you see this on your Base app, this means your home is pulling more power than your battery can safely handle when it tries to turn on.

High power usage is when your home draws more electricity at once than your battery is built to deliver. When that happens, the battery won't turn on until usage comes back down.

Your home needs to be using 11 kW or less for one battery to turn on, or 22 kW or less for two batteries. High-draw appliances are the most common cause:

  • A/C units

  • Electric heaters

  • Large water heaters

  • EV chargers

When usage is too high, your battery automatically tries to restart three times before it stops trying.

What to do if you get this alert

1) Turn off or reduce your highest-draw appliances. Start with A/C, electric heat, and anything charging (like an EV) by turning off the breaker for those in your breaker panel.

2) Open the Base Power app and tap the "Learn more" button in green.

3) Select each appliance you turned off, then tap "Confirm" in green. This restarts your battery system.

4) Wait 5 minutes. Then turn appliances back on one at a time.

A/C is usually the biggest driver of high power usage alerts, and the biggest drain on how long your backup lasts. The more you reduce A/C usage during an outage, the more reliably your battery turns on and the longer it lasts.

Still not working?

If you've followed these steps and your backup still won't turn on, contact Base support through the app.
