Base Core Generator Recharge Port: What to Expect
Base is working on final touches to enable the use of the generator recharge port on Base Core systems. If you have a 25 kWh or 50 kWh system, this does not apply.
In order to enable generator recharge functionality, members will need a small generator adapter for the generator recharge port. We’ll ship one to every member whose installed hardware needs it. Newer Base Core hardware is being redesigned, so it won’t need a separate adapter.
What is the generator adapter?
The generator adapter is a small piece that twists into the generator recharge port on your Base Core. It connects the same way a generator plugs in: you line it up and twist.
Will I get a generator adapter?
If your installed hardware needs one, we’ll mail it to you. You don’t need to request it. We’ll email you ahead of time, so you’ll know whether one is coming. If you don’t get that email, your hardware doesn’t need one.
When will it arrive?
Generator adapters will ship in waves as inventory comes in. We expect shipments to begin in November 2026 and continue through early 2027.
What do I do when it arrives?
The generator adapter is only for times when you’re running a generator. Don’t leave it attached to your Base Core.
When you’re running your generator:
Install the generator adapter in the recharge port. The packaging has a QR code that links to step-by-step instructions. Follow those and any guidance that comes with your shipment.
When you’re done: Remove the generator adapter and store it indoors until the next time you need it.
Will I be asked to test it?
We may invite some members who’ve told us they’re interested in generator functionality to try it early. If you get an invitation, the email will explain what to do and how to opt in. You don’t need to join testing to receive a generator adapter if your hardware needs one.
Can I use it when it’s raining?
Yes. The generator adapter has been through a 7-day rain test and sprinkler testing, so it’s okay to use while it’s raining outside.
Can I plug in my generator before receiving the generator adapter?
Not yet. Generator use isn’t active on Base Core. We’ll email you when it is.
