How is Base different from other energy suppliers in Illinois?

Base is Illinois's only Alternative Retail Energy Supplier (ARES) that provides members with a home backup battery system — at little cost.

Unlike traditional energy suppliers, Base makes money by using your battery to help stabilize the grid during peak demand. This lets Base offer energy rates at least 15% below ComEd's price to compare — not by cutting corners, but by earning revenue from grid services rather than from you.

What you get as a Base member:

  •  A home battery system installed at your property (owned and operated by Base)

  •  Energy supply from Base Retail LLC indexed to be at least 15% below ComEd's price to compare

  •  Backup power during outages

  •  A single consolidated ComEd bill that includes Base's energy supply charges alongside ComEd's delivery charges

Your rate commitment is built into your Energy Service Agreement when you join Base. Base earns revenue by providing grid-balancing services through your battery, so your rate stays competitive without the need to profit from your energy usage.
