What are utility delivery charges? Why do I see both Base and ComEd charges on my bill?
Edited
ComEd does two things: delivers electricity to your home, and sends you one monthly bill with all charges consolidated.
What you'll see on your ComEd bill:
Base Energy Supply Charge — The amount Base Retail LLC charges for supplying your electricity. Base sets this rate to be indexed at least 25% below ComEd's price to compare.
ComEd Delivery Charges — Fees for ComEd's infrastructure: power lines, distribution equipment, and grid maintenance. These are the same regardless of which energy supplier you choose. Base does not control these and receives no portion of them.
Why they're listed separately:
Your bill separates energy supply (Base) from delivery (ComEd). Both appear as distinct line items on your single ComEd bill.
