What are the Interconnection Agreement (IA) and Tariff Agreement (TA), and why do utilities require members to sign them?

Updated over a week ago

During the battery permitting process, utilities like Oncor and CenterPoint will email Base members two agreements to sign to complete the process:

Tariff Application (TA):

  • The Tariff Application applies to register your battery system with the grid, and it details the terms, rates, and conditions under which the battery interacts with the grid.

  • You should receive an email from your utility to sign your Tariff Application 3-5 business days after your home photos are approved and you've scheduled your energy service activation with Base.

Interconnection Agreement (IA):

  • The Interconnection Agreement registers your battery with the grid, and it details the technical and safety requirements to connect and operate the battery with the grid.

  • A few weeks after signing your Tariff Agreement, you should receive an email from your utility to sign your Interconnection Agreement. You may not receive this email until a few weeks after your battery installation, and you don't need to contact Base if it's taking a long time.

Best Practices for Avoiding Issues

  • If you receive a reminder from Base to sign these agreements but can't find the email from your utility, please check your spam folder.

  • Additionally, check your trash folder and ensure that messages from your utility provider are not being blocked by your email system. Cross-verify timestamps or specific delivery information with the utility provider if necessary.

  • Regularly monitor communications from your utility provider to ensure critical information (like agreements) isn't missed.

  • Proactively verify agreements and other project documentation for completeness and accuracy to prevent delays. If the number of batteries shown in the document is not aligned with your expectations, please reach out to [email protected]
