What are my responsibilities as a landlord with Base Power?

Welcome to Base Power! As a landlord, you play a key role in ensuring your tenants enjoy reliable power and outage protection with our home battery system. Here’s more information on how to get started and keep your battery active.

You are responsible for property manager and tenant communication

As the property owner, you are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Tenants keep their electricity service active with Base Power throughout their lease.

  • Tenants understand the benefits of Base Power services

  • You promptly communicate with tenants if they attempt to switch providers.

Register your property

You must register for Base electricity service before you close on your home to ensure there’s continuous electricity, even if you aren’t living there. After registering, service will automatically begin on your closing date.

When you register for service with Base, select “I am a landlord, or plan to be in the future” during the sign-up process. You’ll be prompted to sign the battery agreement and activate service as the primary account holder for electricity service temporary account holder for electricity service

Once you have a tenant signed, you can transfer service to them using the process below.

Once your tenant signs their lease, please complete this form:

Next, we’ll send the tenant a link to activate electricity service with Base. Once they activate service, service will transfer from you to them and we will schedule your battery installation.

What if your tenant switches away from Base?

If your tenant activates service then switches to a different provider:

  • You will be notified immediately

  • You have 2 weeks to correct the issue before deinstallation

We will:

  • Notify you via email and text

  • Send reminders over the 2-week grace period

If unresolved, Base may remove the battery and charge you as the homeowner a $500 de-installation fee
